ENTERTAINMENT BOOK FUNDRAISER
This year Master’s College is again be selling Entertainment Coupon Books as a key fundraiser. The funds we raise will go towards athletics, graduation, special speakers, and events for the College students. We hope you are able to help with this fundraiser by selling at least two books.

Some quick facts about the sale:

  • The Entertainment Book sale will run from August 26 – September 15, 2011
  • Each Calgary edition Entertainment Book sells for $40.00. Cheques should be made payable to Master’s Academy & College
  • Please do not feel obligated to buy unnecessary books if you are unable to sell both.
  • All Entertainment envelopes with payment or unsold books must be returned to the College Office for inventory purposes.
  • Extra books can be requested at the College Office and will be signed out to the students who wish to sell more than two books.

Prizes!
As part of the Entertainment campaign, students are rewarded for their efforts with prizes such as Starbucks gift cards and movie passes. In addition to individual prizes, we will be awarding the highest selling class (per capita) with a pizza party!

Easy ways to help your son/daughter sell:

  1. Go out into your neighbourhood – we are one of the first schools to be selling books, so the sooner the better! Students selling door-to-door may want to consider going in pairs.
  2. Take the books to work and ask your co-workers to support our school by purchasing the coupon book.
  3. Out of Town book sales! Offer books to family and friends that live in other cities. Entertainment Books are available for 150 cities across North America. The Out-of-Town edition order form inside the order envelope lists them all. If your student sells Entertainment Books for other cities, complete the order form and have the purchasers send your child a cheque (made payable to Master’s Academy & College) by the end of the sale. Don’t forget to enter these sales on the order envelope! Keep in mind that Entertainment Books from other cities are PRICED DIFFERENTLY. Please check order form for correct pricing.
  4. Students may also go online for more chances to win prizes through Entertainment.

ADVISORY WITH MISS THOMAS
At Master’s we have developed a unique advisory program where students meet weekly for 90 minutes. During this time, we intentionally develop the attributes mentioned in our Graduate Profile, along with addressing grade specific topics. At the Senior High level, our students are focusing on developing teamwork and leadership skills and will be obtaining a Leadership Credit each year.
Both Junior and Senior High will be inspired by this year’s theme: Alive. John 10:10 says “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full”. We are challenging our students to embrace the abundant life that God offers us through Jesus Christ. We are looking forward to an exciting and rewarding year in this program.

LUNCH NUTRITION
Children want lunches that taste good and keep them full, and parents want a healthy meal for their growing, active children. Children learn and focus better when they eat well balanced meals.
No meal is a good meal if it is not eaten. Work with your children to make a tasty and healthy lunch that they will enjoy eating.

  • Involve your children in grocery shopping and planning their lunches.
  • Let your children make their own lunch, choosing foods from Canada’s Food Guide.
  • Add interest by combining new foods with old favorites.
  • Take time after dinner to prepare a healthy lunch with your children for the next day.

ATHLETICS WITH MR. NESS
Wow, we are back at it again, and with more motivation and desire than ever!

The athletic school year started early with Football. On August 23rd, several of our boys were on the football field, vying for a spot on the Rundle College Football Team (Master’s College continues to register as a joint school with Rundle Academy and Rundle College, to give our athletes the opportunity to play organized football). Did you know that we have been part of the last two Provincial Championship Football Teams?

The second day of school saw 32 high school boys and girls hard at work in the College Gym, hoping to obtain one of the 22 spots available on our Varsity Volleyball Teams. These teams have a very busy season ahead of them with eight tournaments between them, including one here at Master’s College on September 16th and 17th. Junior High Volleyball tryouts will be underway shortly.

The Provincial Qualifying Golf Tournament is slated for September 19th at Inglewood Golf Course, so that the team is starting to take shape. Golf clinics are being planned for September 11th and 18th, so look forward for information about those coming soon!

Please watch your email for information about the upcoming Master’s Athletics KICK-OFF Dessert Night, September 13th. We have partnered with Athletes in Action who have arranged for several players from the Calgary Stampeders to be here for this event. All are invited to join us as we kick off this years athletics with an informative night. Tickets are $5 per person, available at the College Office.
